Spring is on its way...

I took a long walk today. Still struggling to find some inspiration. I "discovered" Regent's Park today. I was on the tube wondering where to go. Decided to choose a random station. It turned out to be Regent's Park. Was really suprised to find a little heaven right in the middle of London.

It was a beautiful day. Cold but sunny and, kind of, positive. When walking back to the station I noticed some flowers. Now, I'm not a big fan of macro or "sweet" pictures but couldn't resist them. I'm actually quite happy with the result.

Seems like spring is finally coming...

Waiting for the summer…

I’ve had enough of the English winter. I feel totally drained out of energy. Would love to just sleep through the remaining month or so. I’m struggling to find any inspiration for pictures as well. Would you even consider getting out of bed in a weather like this?

Time to start looking for a female model :)

Took a few pictures while on my lunch break today. I decided to take as many photos as I can whenever I can. Even if I have to delete 99% of them. Apparently that’s the way to “train” your eyes. True to form all pictures were crap. Spent some 15 minutes pinning down what’s not working – composition, lightning, subject. After all knowing what not to do is almost as important as knowing what works…

Today one of my older pictures. One I’m really happy with. A self-portrait (not exactly a portrait strictly speaking), taken in my room, with no extra lighting or set up…

Amazing how much inspiration can be found when browsing other people’s blogs. Two definitely worth visiting:

1) Absolutely wonderful portraits – full of emotions, mesmerizing, technically perfect…beautiful…

2) Daniel’s images really appeal to me. The “ANNA” series is just amazing. Check it out!!

Blizzard...

Blizzard…

It’s the first time I’ve seen proper snow in London. A regular blizzard… Beautiful… Less so if you’re coming back from work totally unprepared for the onslaught of winter…

I made use of my new always-in-the-bag camera. Took a snap while trying to brave the elements J No composition, no tripod. Not being exactly sober (hey, it’s Monday night!!) didn’t help either. Just a snap. I still like the mood…

New camera, new resolution, new...motherboard

1) New camera
I bought a new toy yesterday. An Olympus Camedia 765 compact. I love it. Didn't have much chance to play with it a lot but so far I'm impressed. The optics is really good, the colours saturated, the zoom.... The zoom rocks - 38mm-380mm. Ideal for these sneaky candids :) All in all a nice puppy that packs loads of features into a small body.

As the batteries come only slightly pre-charged, I could only take a few shots before the camera ran out of juice. Two of them are posted below.

2) New resolution.
I really wanted to get the camera. Even though my old trusted Olympus 5060 never failed me - really, the new purchase was a pure indulgence on my part :) Had to come up with some justification. I thought and thought and decided that, the compact being smaller, it will sit in my bag everywhere I go. And I will take pictures every day. And I will keep the promise...

3) New motherboard

Wanted to go out and battle-test the camera today (and stick to my new resolution along the way). Unfortunately, yesterday my computer suddenly decided to give me some grief. It wouldn't start up - wouldn't even get to the POST screen. Spent several hours today trying to bring it back to life. No luck - after hours of disconnecting, reconnecting, swapping components and such, I finally gave up. My machine is now happily humming away enjoying the brand new motherboard...

Unfortunately all the fuss with the computer means I won't have time to migrate my blog to MoveableType, nor will I be able to play with Brighton pics taken last week... Not the end of the world but slightly annoying anyway...

Don't believe in what they say about London...

It's not always gloomy. Even in winter...

Friday off...

I'm off today!! Feels so good... Will just chill out the whole day. I wanted to wake up at 6am and go take some pictures of the morning "human traffic". Didn't work out, unfortunatelly...

I'm buying a new camera today. Much as I love my Olympus 5060 it's a bit bulky to carry anywhere I go. I saw a nice compact yesterday - Olympuys C-765. Four megapixel resolution coupled with a powerful 38-380mm (10x) zoom. I plan to keep it on me at all times - there have been so many times I would see something interesting but wouldn't have my camera on me... Never going to happen again :)

I'm a bit disapointed. Out of the 200+ pictures I took last weekend in Brighton, there are only a few I'm reasonably satisfied with. Not a single one that would make me go "Wow!!" though :(

I'm wondering, what is your average nice pic-to-crap pic ratio?

Old, now collapsed Brighton pier:

I'm waiting for the night to come...

Too busy to blog...

As the title says - only got back from work 2hours ago. Can't be bothered to write, can't be bothered to play with my new pictures, can't be bothered to do anything... One of these days I guess...

Below a picture of my friend Ann taken last year.

Borrowed inspiration.

Haven't had enough time to even look through pictures from Brighton yet. Maybe Sunday? Nice chillout music, a beer or two, me and photoshop. It can't get much better than this, can it? And yes, I realise how sad it sounds :)

I saw a picture the other day on the Boreddumb blog (boreddumb.blogspot.com) I really like it for being candid-like yet so well composed and so cool. As I really have a thing for B&W lately, I decided, (with the author's permission) to play with it a bit...

Missing the summer...

I was looking through some of my older pictures. The one below was taken last summer on the road leading from Trafalgar Square to the Buckingham Palac (London, UK). I really miss the long days, the sun, the lazy sunday afternoons, the warm evenings...

Went to Brighton today. I absolutely love the place!! Took over 250 pictures - some raw material to play with. I hope to find 5 or 6 of them worth posting...

I registered my own domain and signed up with a web hosting provider. I hope to move the blog from blogger.com and run it on MovableType. That is if I manage to find the time to figure it all out. I've got absolutely no experience in web design, scripts and all that. Can't be rocket science though. Or so I hope...

London Bridge Station

Funny how I will often spend 2-3 hours on a saturday afternoon walking around London looking for inspiration. I will usually shoot 60-80 pictures - out of which only 2 or 3 I will be resonably happy with. And I will take them on my way back home, disapointed with results from the last few hours'. Patience pays off.

The picture was taken two weeks ago at the London Bridge Station. I had just spent 3 hours walking along the Thames trying to find some inspiration. As I was walking down the platform waiting for the train I looked back - I couldn't believe I had never noticed the tall concrete buildings and the arch of the station itself. The dark ominous sky added to the mood.

Instead of going home I spent another hour walking round happily snapping away.

New Start

Welcome to my new photoblog. As one of my new-year resolutions was to go out and take more pictures, I hope this blog will get updated regularly (at least 3 times a week) and will not die a natural death as did my old one (http://gregsphotoblog.blogspot.com).

Two pictures today:
